FAQs
What is reading intervention?
Reading intervention is a deeper dive into the root of why a child is having difficulty retaining reading skills. It’s more than tutoring. It involves a variety of researched strategies specific to a child’s targeted learning needs, and brings the focus back to the basics of reading skills. Once I know where the child is performing, I can address how they are learning.
How long do sessions typically last?
Initial screener sessions typically last 25-30 minutes, and Intervention sessions last 55 minutes.
WHat is the recommended frequency for sessions per week?
It is recommended that a child attend intervention a minimum of 2x per week for optimal progress, however, parents/guardians can choose how often they would like to have their child attend, which can be weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.
What is your cancellation policy?
Every minute of our intervention time is valuable. We encourage you to call or text the office if you will be more than 10 minutes late to a session. Session end time will remain the same as scheduled. A late start will not result in a reduction of the session fee. If a client is more than 15 minutes late to a session, the session will be canceled and will need to be rescheduled. Cancellation fee of $25 will apply.
What are the grade levels you work with?
Kindergarten thru 8th grade.
Are parents allowed to sit in on sessions?
Sorry, parents are not allowed to sit in on sessions. This is for a variety of reasons, but the main reason is that I need the child’s full attention throughout the session, and typically when mom or dad are close by, the child is less likely to interact with me naturally. There is a waiting area in the lobby of the office building where parents are welcome to stay while waiting.
CAn we drop off our child for a session and pick them up when it’s over?
Parents must remain in the building for the duration of the session. The exception to this is for mini summer camps; parents may drop and and pick up at this time only.
DO we need to bring anything to sessions?
You do not need to bring anything to regularly scheduled sessions unless specifically requested or discussed beforehand.
